The Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures the prices that producers receive for their goods and services, increased by 0.6% in January 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is the largest monthly increase since September 2021 and was driven by a rise in prices for services, particularly transportation and warehousing services. On an annual basis, the PPI increased by 7.5% in January, which is the largest year-over-year increase since the data was first recorded in 2010. The rise in producer prices may be an indication of higher inflation, which could impact consumer prices in the coming months.
