Nokia’s (NYSE: NOK) New Smartphone is a ‘Military Grade’ Model with 5G that can Take a Beating

On July 27, 2020, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) debuted its new devices, including a ‘military grade’ smartphone designed to withstand severe environmental conditions. According to HMD Global’s statement, Nokia XR20 is the most durable phone created to date. The XR20 features a 6.67-inch rugged Gorilla Glass Victus display from American tech company Corning. In addition, the company was promising that the Nokia XR20 can resist damage from scratches and drops from about 6 feet.

Nokia XR20’s Marketing Features

The Nokia XR20 is named a ‘rugged’ phone in the mobile industry, a niche category in the market mainly aimed at extreme sports persons and manual laborers. Moreover, HMD believes that Nokia XR20 caters to a mainstream audience. For example, the firm shows that the woman spilled coffee over the mobile and then rinsed it in the sink in the featuring video. Also, a girl accidentally drops the mobile while picking it up and then dropping again on a stony path. However, the phone is pretty unscratched after all that. In addition to that, HMD said that the Nokia XR20 could withstand up to an hour underwater and endure extreme temperatures. Thus, it fits for the mobile brands whose mobiles were famous for their durability. It creates countless internet memes, subject to the myth that Nokia phones were ‘indestructible.’

Apart from its rugged grade, the Nokia XR20 smartphone supports super fast 5G and has a 48-megapixel with 13-megapixel dual-lens primary camera. Moreover, it arrives in two colors: blue and black. HMD also promised four years of monthly security updates and three years of Android system upgrades.

Florian Seiche’s Statement

HMD’s CEO, Florian Seiche, said that most people need to keep their phones longer. So, HMD not only targeting enterprise clients, but it also targets consumers with Nokia XR20, he added. Seiche also adds that this fits many enterprise device requirements and doesn’t want to pay $1,000 or $1,500 for a purpose. The Nokia XR20 features a price of $550 in the U.S. and 399Euros in the U.K. The Nokia XR20 will ship from August 24.
